Junior Baseball at Bonnet Bay

Whether your child has played before or has never picked up a bat, they are welcome at Bonnet Bay. Our junior pathway starts with T-Ball, progresses through Zooka and player-pitched baseball, and continues all the way through to Senior League.

We are a family-friendly community club based at Tom Evans Field in Bonnet Bay. All are welcome to join the Beaver Nation.

At a Glance

Season starts: 12th September 2026
Game Times: Most games are played on Saturday mornings, usually at 9:00am or 10:30am. Older juniors generally play in the afternoon at 1:00pm or 3:30pm.
Training: Teams generally train once per week. Training times are set by the coach in consultation with families.
Club Jerseys: Supplied by the club at no cost and returned at the end of the season.

Our Try Days are a relaxed way for children to have a hit, throw a ball, meet the club and see what baseball is about before registering.

More Try Days may become available after these dates. If no further Try Days are available, parents are welcome to contact the club to ask whether their child can attend a training session before signing up.

Your child does not need baseball experience or baseball gear to attend.

What to bring to a Try Day

Please bring:

Comfortable clothes
Runners or sports shoes
Hat
Drink bottle
Sunscreen

The club will provide bats and other equipment for the session.

What is League Age?
League Age (LA) is the age used by junior baseball to determine which division a player is eligible to play in.

It helps ensure that players are grouped with others of a similar age and developmental stage, creating a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone.

A player's League Age may be different from their current age, which is why baseball uses League Age rather than simply using a child's age on game day.

Junior Baseball Pathway
Beginners are welcome at all levels. Older players do not need to have played T-Ball or Zooka to join.

League Age	Format / Division	Description
LA4 - LA8	T-Ball	The best starting point for younger players. The ball is hit from a tee, helping children learn to hit, throw, catch, run the bases, and develop basic game awareness.
LA9 - LA10	Zooka	Players hit a moving ball delivered by a pitching machine. This is a great bridge between T-Ball and player-pitched baseball.
LA11 - LA12	Little League	Player-pitched baseball. Players continue to develop their hitting, fielding, base running, pitching, catching, and game understanding.
LA12 - LA13	Intermediate League	A transition level between Little League and older junior baseball, with players continuing to build confidence and baseball skills.
LA13 - LA14	Junior League	Player-pitched baseball for older juniors, with more advanced skills, strategy and game play.
LA15 - LA17	Senior League	The oldest junior division, helping players continue developing before moving into senior baseball.

Does My Child Need Experience?
No.

Some players start at T-Ball when they are young. Others join later in Zooka, Little League, Junior League or Senior League. The club will help guide families toward the most suitable team or division based on age, experience and team numbers.

The goal is to help children enjoy baseball, learn the game and build confidence.

What Equipment Does My Child Need?
One of the great things about junior baseball is that new players do not need to buy a lot of equipment to get started.
For a first training session or Try Day, all your child really needs is comfortable sports clothing, a hat, a drink bottle and a pair of runners.

Equipment you'll need for the season

Baseball pants and belt - Players will need baseball pants and a belt for games. These can be purchased from most baseball retailers.
Cap - Players wear a Bonnet Bay Beavers cap, which can be purchased through the club.
Glove - A glove is the one piece of equipment we recommend every player owns. The club does have some gloves available for new players, but families planning to play the season should consider purchasing a glove.

For new players, we recommend visiting a specialist baseball store to ensure you get the correct size glove for your child's age and hand size.

Jerseys are supplied free of charge and must be returned to the club at the end of the season.

Their staff can usually recommend suitable equipment based on your child's age and playing experience.

A few extra tips

Shoes with studs are recommended. Soccer boots work perfectly well, and many players use them.
Boys should wear a protective box\hector.
New players generally do not need to buy their own bat. We recommend using the team bats before deciding whether to purchase one.
If you're unsure what equipment to buy, please contact us first. We are happy to help and may be able to save you from buying something your child doesn't need.

Parent Help and Volunteering
Bonnet Bay Baseball Club is a community sporting club run by volunteers.

Each junior team usually needs parents to help with coaching, managing, scoring and general game-day support. You do not need to be a baseball expert to help. Many roles can be learned, and the club can provide guidance.

Junior baseball works best when families get involved, even in small ways.
