Vale Col Hodge

In memory of Col Hodge who sadly passed away last week.

His funeral will be held at St Catherine's, cnr Gymea Bay Rd and President Ave, Gymea. This friday (27th), 10.00 am..

"Some of you may be aware that Col Hodge has been in hospital since late October. He was in for a check but contracted an infection and became very unwell. His liver was badly infected and the poison was spreading through his body. His condition deteriorated while in hospital and he has been in and out of intensive care. Just before the Christmas period his kidneys shut down and he was put on dialysis, he was being fed intravenously through a nasal/gastro tube and to assist his breathing he was on a ventilator. He was receiving massive doses of antibiotics. We were hopeful he could overcome the infection and would be able to withstand the trauma of another kidney transplant. When Lachlan flew back from America last week Col was so heavily sedated he was unable to acknowledge his presence although we feel he was receiving the information. On Thursday he had a bad turn and his wife Gayle (who has been at RPA almost 24/7) went in to see him this morning. The children joined her at midday and the doctors began lowering Col's support. He passed about 4.30.
One of our best umpires, a St Pats stalwart, a champion dad and a great bloke who made an enormous contribution to our community Col is a tremendous loss to all of us. Col was 52.

I am confident I speak for all of those of you who knew Col when I expressed condolences to Gayle and the children."
- Peter Barrington

The club would also like to extend their deepest sympathies and condolences to the entire Hodge family.
